How can I access my Wubi root.disk data

Boot the Ubuntu Desktop CD, or another LiveCD, then mount the windows partition:

sudo mkdir /win
sudo mount /dev/sda1 /win

Replace sda1 with the appropriate device (a = disk, 1 = partition number), then mount the virtual disk therein

sudo mkdir /vdisk
sudo mount -o loop /win/ubuntu/disks/root.disk /vdisk

Now the content of the virtual disk will be visible under /vdisk. 7.04 users will have to install ntfs-3g first and specify it as fstype to gain r/w access.

To check the filesystem you can use:

sudo fsck /win/ubuntu/disks/root.disk

Windows 7 Desktop Icons Disappear

Issue:

  • Icons on my Windows7 desktop disappear

Microsoft Information:

Other Information:

1. Easy solution to shortcuts disappearing… create a folder on your desktop called Shortcuts and put all your desktop shortcuts in the folder.  Then “send” the shortcuts back to your desktop from the folder.  Now they won’t disappear because they are linked to the desktop not to the correct location.

2. PowerShell Amend

  • Navigate to “%SystemRoot%\diagnostics\scheduled\Maintenance”.
  • Take ownership of the file “TS_UnusedDesktopIcons.ps1” (else you will not have the permission to modify the file)
  • Comment out (with a #) the line 32 ($list = AttachTo-List $list $wmiLinkFile.Name)
  • Save…

  2. Install handbrake from apt-get
  3. Add MediaUbuntu to your System
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu#Adding%20the%20Repository
  4. Install libdvdcss from apt-get
  5. Complete it.

Chat From someone helping with Install. (IRC #handbrake@irc.freenode.net)

hello people, I have ubuntu 10.4 – I have added the PPA, now what.
how do i  make sure i download the HB from the correct PPA?
you added the ppa to your software sources?
yeh
then you should see the packages ‘handbrake-gtk’ and ‘handbrake-cli’ in ubuntus package manager
How can I tell what PPA they come from?
OK, I have them .  I thought they where there before I did the PPA?  is that possible?
kv102t: apt-cache showpkg handbrake-gtk
kv102t: only possible if you had another ppa installed that has them.  they are not in the official ubuntu repository
Ok, i only had the ubuntu PPA so i must have got confused..
Thanks J45 –  One more question, Do you know of any DVD’s that HB can’t copy? Protected??
i’ve not run into any myself that it flat out fails on. but there’s one that i know of that it does a very poor job of. The german version of ‘The Walker’ it completely skips the first couple minutes of the movie.
some ugly copy protection scheme that makes the first couple minutes of the movie part of the dvd menus instead of putting it in a title set.
strange, But 99% of the time the Quality is good.  I’ll give HB a go. K9Copy didn’t work very well. !

Just installed HB on ubuntu 10.4  Seems to work, but film (Die Hard 3) is green/white/other squares.
preview looks OK, anyone ??
kv102t: have you install libdvdcss?  you need it.  can be obtained from the medibuntu repository.
no. not yet.  Would this cause the issue of preview OK, but RIP error ?
i put libdvdcss into SynapticPM, can’t see anything like libdvdcss
you have to add the medibuntu repository.  google, follow the directions they give for adding the repo
Ah, no.  i’ll have a go now..

Sorry, can’t find instructions for ubuntu 10.4 – If you could, could you ponit a noob in the direction..

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu#Adding%20the%20Repository

ok, looks to be added to repos.  Still searched for libdvdcss and didb’t seem to get anything new. (did update)
do have “Commonly used restricted packages for Ubuntu” & “library for reading DVDs”
2ns is already installed..
Oh, did a refresh again and now there is a libdvdcss-dev  so I guess it’s that.
there should be libdvdcss as well, without -dev
from the terminal, try ‘

sudo apt-get install libdvdcss

or ‘apt-cache search libdvdcss’
came back with: >> libdvdcss2 is already the newest version
and :>> selecting libdvdcss2 instead of libdvdcss
hmm, so you do have it installed already.  will need to see an activity log of the problem encode to get more info.
I didn’t let the film complete, would that matter?
shouldn’t matter.  logs are all saved to files.  ~/.config/ghb/EncodeLogs
ok, one possibility is that the region code of your drive is not set.  some drives will not reliably read any disc if it’s not set.  for drives that work well, a few discs will still give problems.

is it this line >> libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
there’s a program called regionset that will set the region.   Your disc is region 2.  However you want to set the region once and never change it.  Drives typically have a limit of 5 times you are allowed to change the region.
so if you are going to encode discs from other regions, you might want to consider getting another external drive.
hmm, silly me
i didn’t look for the dvdcss message. i assumed you had it since apt-get says you do
Umm, just DVD’s from the UK.
try removing and re-installing dvdcss
sudo apt-get remove libdvdcss2
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2
Do i need to the region thing
fix dvdcss before screwing with the region.  you may be ok without changing it
ok, just reinstalling now
ok, done.  Should i try ripping first few seconds again.
yup
OK, give me 5 and i’ll have some results.
are you running a 32 or 64 bit version of ubuntu?
32-bit
I do have a 64-bit CPU.
so you should be able to find the file /usr/lib/libdvdcss.so.2
you can open the activity window to see if it found dvdcss while it’s running.
no location found
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access
that sounds better
i’ve got to go.  good luck.
libdvdnav: Unable to find map file ‘/home/kyle/.dvdnav/DIEHARD3_CENSORED.map’
OK thank mate!
map file thing is nothing. ignore.
OK, thanks again.
Yes, Done
Working, Thanks BUD !!
